IORI KIKUCHI

Born in Tokyo in 1998, and raised in Shonan area, Iori Kikuchi is a Japanese artist: a painter and an illustrator. She studied at Purchase College, The State University of New York, and graduated from Tyler School of Art, Temple University Japan. Iori was winning the grand-prix of “TURNER AWARD 2018” in 2019, and the grand prix of Manhattan Portage Art Award 2023 “LOVE” in 2023. She works across different media from traditional to digital while her main practice sits around the idea of painting. Her recent works: Wall/Mural Art for KITTE MARUNOUCHI, FUJITSU and okamura. Live painting performance for luxury brands New Balance、PRADA and RALPH LAUREN. Official merch design for Anna Takeuchi and illustration for Motohiro Hata. Illustrations for UBE Corporation and fashion magazines VERY.

菊地 伊織 | きくち　いおり

1998年東京都生まれ。湘南育ち。英語とフランス語を話す日本人アーティスト。ニューヨーク州立大学パーチェス校に進学後、タイラー・スクール・オブ・アーツ・テンプル大学ジャパンを卒業。2019年「TURNER AWARD 2018」で大賞を受賞。2023年「Manhattan Portage Art Award 2023 “LOVE”」でグランプリを受賞。絵画作品、壁画、イラストやデザインまで、幅広い表現方法で作品を日々制作している。過去の仕事に、KITTE MARUNOUCHI、富士通、okamuraなど商業施設や企業のオフィスにて壁画制作。New Balance、PRADAやRALPH LAURENなどハイブランドのポップアップイベントで、ライブペイントを実施。竹内アンナや秦基博のツアーグッズデザインやイラストを担当。ＵＢＥ株式会社のTVCMや、雑誌VERYなどの挿絵を担当。

Artist Statement

The conceptual boundaries between painting and digital art are explored through the use of digital tools to construct new worlds within each piece. This work challenges contemporary perceptions of reality in the digital age, aiming to create art that evokes warmth and comfort. Rather than replicating external landscapes, the imagery reflects a vision shaped by personal perception. Seen through eyes with extremely low visual acuity (approximately 20/400), the world dissolves into gentle blurs of color and light—an aesthetic regarded not as a limitation, but as a unique mode of expression that reveals light, air, and emotion in nuanced ways. The emphasis is not on strict realism, but on capturing atmosphere, luminosity, and mood as they are perceived. By blending digital and traditional media, a space emerges where multiple ways of seeing coexist, inviting viewers to reconsider how reality is constructed. Challenging the assumption that vision is uniform, the work encourages a deeper inquiry into the nature of perception itself.

アーティストステイトメント

絵画とデジタルアートの概念的な境界を探求し、デジタルツールを用いて絵の中に新たな世界を創造する。デジタル時代における「現実」の認識に挑みながら、温かさや安らぎをもたらすアートを目指している。風景をそのまま写し取るのではなく、自身の視界から生まれる世界を描く。視力0.05の世界は、常に柔らかく滲む色彩に包まれており、それは単なる制約ではなく、光や空気、感情を映し出すひとつの表現手法となっている。厳密なリアリズムではなく、見える世界の光や空気、雰囲気を描き出すことに重きを置いている。デジタルとアナログを融合させることで、異なる視界が共存する空間を創出し、「世界はどのように見えているのか？」という問いを鑑賞者に投げかける。視覚は決して一様ではなく、その前提を揺さぶることで、知覚そのものを探求するきっかけとなる作品を志向している。
